Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant Statistics in the New Jersey, Year (2004-05):

  • CHP electricity generation in New Jersey in the year 2005 totaled 15.50 TWh, which was 15 % of total gross electricity generation.
  • More than 90 % of the CHP electricity, 27.50 TWh, was produced in manufacturing industries whilst public services recorded 5 % of the CHP electricity generation which was equal to 1.4 TWh.
  • The chemical industry (13.32 TWh), the Petroleum Refining industry (10.14 TWh) and Paper and Allied Products (2.90 TWh) were the largest industrial CHP electricity generators. 87% of the CHP electricity in industry was generated in these three sectors.
  • The principal fuel consumed in cogeneration was natural gas, which is being used in 87 % of CHP plants. The share of renewable fuels was 5.5 %.
